Put your old glasses to good use
Got any old, unwanted, out-sighted glasses hanging around your home? Then why not put them to good use and donate them to two great charity drives collecting seeing eye glasses for people in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Paula Monaco of Boroondara Eye Care has been collecting glasses during June and July for more than a decade and in recent years has collected between 400 and 500 pairs of glasses from patients, friends, friends of friends and anyone whose heard the word about donating their old glasses.
“When the glasses are dropped into me I clean them, make any minor repairs and check the prescription, they are then bundled for collection,” Paula Monaco said.
North Balwyn Rotary Club collects glasses to distribute in Vietnam, while Ivanhoe Grammar School collects for distribution to Cambodia.
“It’s really lovely when someone comes in and drops off glasses that belonged to a relative who has passed away and they tell you how pleased they are the glasses can help give sight to someone who would not be able to afford glasses.”
The glasses drive allows children to be able to learn at school and for adults to be able to earn a living where normally they would have been severely impeded due to their poor eyesight.
Anyone wanting to donate their glasses can drop them into Boroondara Eye Care at 264 Doncaster Road (corner of Harrington Avenue and Doncaster Road).
You can be assured they will go to someone who will be given a whole new lease on life.
Landscaping works continue
Shoppers and visitors to Greythorn will be seeing the new landscaping works transitioning Greythorn Central into a vibrant and wonderful space to shop, dine and unwind.
New garden areas, paving, parking and lighting are all under way transforming Greythorn into a vibrant new village with a heart and soul.
The works almost $1 million works being undertaken by Boroondara City Council will continue throughout winter.
Disruption to shoppers continues to be minimal, but the results when the works are completed will be highly welcomed.
